Delhi Airport Begins Trial of Contactless Biometric Boarding Using Face Recognition

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has begun a trial of a face recognition-based boarding system that allows passengers to pass through check-in, security, and boarding gates without showing physical ID or boarding passes. The system, called DigiYatra, uses biometric verification linked to Aadhaar and boarding data. Passengers voluntarily enroll through a mobile app, and the data is stored temporarily for the duration of travel. So far, 35,000 passengers have used the system with positive feedback on speed and convenience. Authorities claim boarding time has reduced by 40%. Privacy advocates urge strict data handling protocols, while aviation officials see this as a model for smart airports of the future.
